We went to up to Akron to meet newborn Rowan at the beginning of the year 🙂 He had a great session, and mom shared some stories for his blog:

  • They met at a wedding of mutual friends on mom’s 21st birthday. Dad’s chosen pick-up line when he spotted his future wife in her black dress with bright pink flowers? “May I pollinate you?” He hasn’t lived this down since.
  • He was waiting outside the bathroom door, she took a test after not feeling well for two days. She wasn’t sure if she was pregnant or if it was a wine hangover.
  • Mom works as a physical therapist with older clients, and she didn’t get very big/show very much when she was pregnant. When she would tell her older patients that she was in fact pregnant, her favorite response was “you’re shitting me!” from a 90 year old lady.
  • We found out it was a boy at the 20 week ultrasound. Both of us thought for sure it was a girl so we were surprised! Mom’s first thought was “Oh good, someone else can watch wrestling with Ryan now!”, Dad’s first thought, “Oh man there’s a real person in there!”
  • If it was a boy, it had to start with an “R” because the last three Ramsey men had names starting with R. If it was a girl we were in trouble because we couldn’t agree on any names we both liked. We knew as soon as we found out it was a boy it would be Rowan, and the middle name was chosen after Olivia’s brother (Rowan’s uncle). We didn’t want to tell anyone what it was going to be, so we just told everyone we wanted to wait until we met him to decide, but we had it “narrowed down” to Reed, Rhett, and Rowan.
  • Rowan showed his stubborn side from the get-go, it only took him 30+ hours and 2+ hours of pushing on mom’s part to get him out. Mom watched the Harry Potter marathon (one of her favorite books/movies) for most of the 30 hours. Dad did awesome through it all!
  • Both relieved that he was happy, healthy, and crying at the top of his lungs.
  • Overwhelming, tiring, rewarding, and challenging.

And now some of my favorites 🙂

I just sent newborn Lucille’s gallery off to her mom, and I have to share my favorites from her session!

For your reading pleasure, a little bit about how Lulu came to be, answered by her mom:

  • Over a bottle of Jack Daniels.
  • I asked him to tell me if he saw two lines or one line on the pregnancy test. We were actively trying so it was not a big shock.
  • In short being pregnant is not fun, however this was not surprising to me, I did not think it would awesome to have an alien being living inside of you and sucking the life out of you for 9 months while you get really fat. It is a means to and end.
  • Nope! We found out at delivery. Dad really wanted a boy so when he saw it was a girl, he said “oh” and then later said, “I guess we will have to try again.” Mom was not surprised because she knew because dad wanted a boy so badly it would be a girl.
  • We narrowed it down to Lucille and Blanche for a girl, but Dad hated the the name Blanche, so we went with Lucille. If it was a boy we picked Augustus, it was the only name we could agree on.
  • When attempting to put in the car seat base, I (mom) didn’t know what the heck I was doing and thought it was really hard. I ended up crying in the back seat thinking I should not be allowed to have a child. Eventually, I got it put in and realized I could now be a mom.
  • Labor sucked…..until I got an epidural pretty late in the game, and then it was lovely. I pushed for less than an hour and felt great while doing it, because I could barely feel anything. Dad did an amazing job and really got involved, holding mom’s legs, it was shocking.
  • Sure did. Looked like a baby!
  • I (mom) was completely overwhelmed, tired and relieved that she was healthy. Dad was also very happy, instantly in love.
  • Tiring. Babies sure do sleep a lot, but only a few hours at a time and then they wake you up and want you to feed them. It might be one of the hardest, yet most fulfilling things i have ever experienced.

The New Craft Room

I usually have 2 New Year’s Resolutions:

#1 is always the same: Weigh less than I did the previous year 🙂

And #2 changes. This year’s main resolution: TAKE CONTROL OF MY CRAFT SUPPLIES… sounds easy, but as you can imagine, I have a LOT of stuff.

The back story: I had my things stored, but not a “work room,” so my projects could be found all over our house. It took a while for Jason to give me a room for my stuff, but he finally agreed to our sunroom. I had it neatly organized for about 2 months. I would get something out, put it back, look out the windows, enjoy life, and craft…. and then Vada started walking. So my enjoyable crafting turned into me starting a project, Vada would come in, I would hurry to get done, and then I would see her “making it rain” with glittery confetti. No joke. She actually opened a bag and dumped it over her head… slowly. That did not stop me, I still tried to do some projects, but then Vada evolved and started sneaking off with jars of beads and spilling them around the house.  In a very short period of time, my nice little room turned into a shithole. I don’t even want to go into the sunroom because it’s overwhelmingly messy. Due to the fact that every wall is floor to ceiling windows, there really isn’t a spot to put cabinets. My stuff started piling up all over, and my helpers (Vada and Evy) just add to the mess. OH, and it’s also home to all of the legos. Yeah, not pretty. I even purchase duplicate supplies because I didn’t even want to try to look for the same thing I knew I had… somewhere 🙁

So back to my resolution. My basement is big. I mean like 2,000 sf big. And the ceilings are about 12′ tall, which is super weird for a basement, but I didn’t build it, I just bought it 🙂 There is a back portion that is not finished, and we basically sit old big toys, some random Christmas stuff, and just junk. Stuff we probably should have thrown out years ago, but haven’t. I’m moving in! I have measured this part, and it’s about 18’x27′.  Here’s a pic of it. The pile of stuff in the bottom right of the picture is goodwill, and we’re not sure about the stuff on the left.

I have big plans that I’m sketching out currently. The first step will be to create a 12’x10′ divider, and place it about 8′ in front of the back wall. We have stuff that we actually do need to store in this picture, so we’re planning on putting it behind there… Then the rest of the space will be a LOT of storage and workspace areas (aka, tables).

Stay tuned. I am about to build A LOT of stuff this winter!

And here’s some of my inspiration… but I’m not allowed to paint the block, so hopefully adding many new lights and painting the cabinets will brighten it up like the pics below. (They are screenshots, so sorry about the blurry-ness.)

Canton Ohio Newborn Photographer | Newborn Session with Lucie

I had the pleasure meeting 4 days new little baby Lucie… and her session made me fall in love with newborn sessions all over again 🙂 Mom gave me the go ahead to do whatever my creative little self wanted. I had some ideas, but (of course) Lucie was early, and I scheduled our session the following afternoon after talking to mom… so I was strapped for time. Now that I think about it, it was probably a good thing, or I would have had about 1 million ideas and half finished props!

After staring at all my props, I went with a very wintery-Christmas theme for many images. I did many classic newborn images, and then would add some type of Christmas headband to turn it into Christmas. I’m kind of obsessed with newborns and Christmas pictures 🙂 I think it’s because I only get to use my ideas once a year, and I have a very small window of time for them. I totally whipped up the reindeer headband an hour before our session. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be super tacky or super adorable, but it was seriously the cutest thing ever!

Back to Lucie. She slept like a dream, had the most perfect skin, and was so squishy. If you’ve had a newborn session before, you know what I mean by squishy, if you haven’t, it’s when the babies can be moved all over and wrapped up into little burritos and still stay asleep. Oh, AND she had a mohawk! How awesome is that!?!

I hope you enjoy checking out some of the highlights from her session!

Newborn Cooper came to visit me all the way from Mayfield Heights. I was a little nervous we would have some problems since he slept on the hour car ride, but it went surprisingly easy 😉 I wrapped him up like a little potato, and he was out in a few!

Mom left most of the color options up to me, so I was pretty excited. Usually the requests for boys are blue and grey, so I changed it up with mint and yellow. I love yellow for newborns… plus it’s easier to hide newborn “presents” they leave me when they’re un-diapered. He is also pictured with dad’s childhood monkey. Cooper happened to be awake, but very content during the last portion of our session. He hugged and snuggled right up to the monkey.

I doubt I will ever forget Cooper’s newborn hair. He had… uhhh… well… basically he had a bald man’s mullet! It was pretty long on the sides and in the back, but super short on the top! Hilarious on this little guy 🙂
